Constipation

What do you mean by constipation?

It means different things to different people.

  • Hard poop
  • Not pooping
  • Straining to poop

Not Pooping

It’s not necessary to poop every day. Four or five days can go by without pooping. The frequency depends largely upon how much you eat. If it goes beyond four or five days, I will prescribe a glycerin or Dulcolax suppository depending upon the age.

Straining to Poop

Moms tell me this all the time. It’s normal for a newborn baby to strain when pooping. It’s normal for anyone for that matter. Newborns though have a more difficult time because they don’t walk and they don’t sit up; therefore, they don’t have gravity to pull that poop downward.

Hard Poop

Generally dairy products tend to cause hard poop. Ice cream, milk, cheese will turn your poop into a rock. Fruits and vegetables will soften it up. So will drinking more fluids.
